2021.10.16 17:29 TomasMSM Getting HRV measurements without the Mindfulness app

Hello everyone,
I have had an Apple Watch for a year now. I love it. I use it for training, general fitness and to limit my phone usage. One app I really like is training today. It provides a very simple and straight-forward way to see how my body is recovering from running and exercise in general.
One thing that really annoys me is how little HRV readings the watch perform during the day. There are days I get 10 readings throughout the day, which I consider to be good. But there are also day where I get three or four readings. I know I can force a reading by using the Mindfulness app but I hate doing it. When I use the mindfulness app I like to follow the prompt and tactics which always end up elevating my HRV - no surprise here. But when I don't follow the instructions so that I can get a simple reading I feel stupid. I am deliberately using the feature the wrong way.
Does anyone know an alternative to using the Mindfulness app to get and HRV reading.
PS: Also, I feel that during the night the watch could take a lot more HRV readings. I generally get 3 or 4.
Thank you for your help.

2021.10.16 17:29 CLX89 A defense of Tony's weaknesses in Roadrunner

There's a very stupid saying that you should never meet your heroes. I disagree with that saying completely. I think you should meet every one of your heroes you possibly can, because when you meet them, you learn who deserves your admiration and who doesn't. Meeting your idols humanizes them, so they're no longer a flat image, but a complete person. A person with flaws, weaknesses in their thinking, addictions, and the need to sleep, fart, and floss more. They're mortals like you and me, no one is sacred. Or maybe everyone is, and the beauty they contributed to the world is something you can do, too.
I've seem a lot of posts, here and elsewhere, of people feeling critical of Bourdain after seeing the documentary Roadrunner, which puts his flaws in center spotlight. I'd put off watching the film to see it with family who wanted to see it too, and we finally did on Thursday. I promise you, every one of the people you've ever admired has serious, dark shortcomings, and finding those weaknesses will test you, to see if that hero's stature survives in your mind. I should stop using the term hero, because I never thought of Bourdain as a hero, but rather someone I deeply admire. I think Roadrunner put everyone through that test with Bourdain, and despite people's criticisms, I'm happy to see he survived that test for most people. He certainly did for me.
The starkest flaws spotlighted in Roadrunner were Bourdain's firing of longtime crew members in favor of a girlfriend and a celebrity, a horrible comment he made projecting his issues onto his friend David Choe, and his obsessive overzealousness over the #metoo movement (his passion was good in a way, but it took over his life and burned some people - the film didn't go into enough detail for me to comment on this last point). I'm not going to try to justify his behavior, beyond saying that they showed very human weaknesses in Bourdain's character. I seriously doubt anyone can claim not to have their own issues, comparable in magnitude to Bourdain's flaws. Hell, I bet your flaws are a lot worse. I'm sure Bourdain's obsessiveness, which is sometimes ugly, is also what drove a lot of Bourdain's successes, and what he was able to give the world through his shows and books. They say the key to success is focus.
What more than makes up for his weaknesses are his virtues. Besides his charisma and his incredible talent as a storyteller, Bourdain comes across as an unpretentious, and frankly very nice, guy (despite an edge characteristic of many cooks). He would talk to anyone, and his shows depended on it. He could engage with people on the most sensitive topics in a way that most great journalists can't match. He would talk with any random person on the street - he was never too good for the working class, but he wasn't self-righteous about that either, and was just as happy to talk to a white collar worker. He didn't have the same vanity I see in many successful artists.
One thing I had felt a little critical of in the past was Bourdain's cool guy posturing, especially when he was younger. I think I understand it better, though, and there's something of a virtue to it. I think cool guy posturing is a way of coping with something for most people. For Bourdain, I think it was a way to put some style and self-ownership over a slightly geeky awkwardness. I see that same geeky cool with other creatives like Richard Hell and a young Serge Gainsbourg, and it's frankly endearing. It's a world away from the bullshit, abusive "cool" that John Wayne and Steven Seagal had, which has become so transparent and absurd for them over time. Bourdain had style, but he was also very genuine.
I admire Bourdain for his talents, his show, and his writing, which I'm still reading through will continue returning to. I'm also happy to have a more complete picture of Bourdain, not just as a media figure, but as a complete person.

2021.10.16 17:29 __is_butter_a_carb__ Shoes to compare to On Cloudsurfer 6?

Background: I hate running and I'm a sloooooow runner but it's my kryptonite when it's involved in my workouts.
I finally recovered from a calf tear and I tried a friend's pair for my first run and joked around saying if so make it a mile then I might buy some.
Well I did, and they actually made running bearable. Before I make the plunge in buying, is there any other shoe I can compare it to? I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to the mechanics of running shoes so all I know is the On Cloudsurfer 6 felt good.
The only reason I'm weary of buying them is because some posts say it doesn't last very long. However, I'm probably going to use them for 2 miles 2-3x/week and then maybe go up from would it work for me for now?

2021.10.16 17:29 GoddamHotPotatoes Rendering a simple html table with rails

Say I have Four columns
a x y z
Z will consist of a link whose text will change on each click let’s say “on/off”
Y Will eventually display data from an API
A,X Will eventually display data from a database
At this point I am happy for Y,A and X to display hard coded dummy data and I will implement the external calls later.
Can anyone point me to some resources that use a controller and render a HTML table with the requirements above?

2021.10.16 17:29 dndnf98 Lexapro withdrawal syndrome/side effect going on for two years now

I took lexapro for 4years prior to quitting. Changed dosage multiple times and very sloppily weaned off two years ago. I started having brain zaps from not taking lexapro and it happened everytime I shifted my eyes from side to side. For those who don't know what brain zaps are, its a pretty well known ssri withdrawal side effect where your brain momentarily freezes(?) Or experiences this electrical feeling from your head to heart. When its bad, you can hear 'zing-' sound in your ears (its not hallucination). Im not sure what it does to your body, but it makes you feel dizzy and uncomfortable. To be frank, Im not sure what SSRI did to the rest to my body and brain, but brainzap is a prominent lasting symptom that has been affecting me. Its still going on and although it's not as bad as when i just quit, it gets noticeable at night. Im still extremely depressed and lethargic, so Idk why I decided to not take any antidepressants. But frankly im scared of them. I feel like depression didn't make me sick, but the antidepressants did more.. and from quitting them. Im more depressed and more mentally ill than before when I never took antidepressants. It strange that even doctors barely mentions or knows about these lasting side effects. Im not trying to scare or unreasonallt criticize lexapro or ssri, but I just don't want to take something just to numb my feelings when I don't even know what else it does to my body.
