2021.10.18 01:01 B0BY_1234567 Need help exporting my mob to my game.
Hey there! I started out with blockbench today and I am having trouble bringing my mob into the game using the Minecraft Entity Wizard. I followed the steps as instructed and I made my 3D model, but when I download the pack my mob only shows up as the base mob and not the one I designed. The egg still is in the Creative inventory when I include the packs, it's just that my mob only looks like the Phantom instead of the custom mob I made. Any tips?

2021.10.18 01:01 AutumnalSugarShota Some thoughts on speculative psychology and behavior for sapient alien species.
This is of course a very hard topic to speculate on, but I've been thinking about some things I think I want to share.
The things I always mention when I discuss this topic are:
1 - How things like culture and psychology are hard to speculate on because one small change can lead to big differences due to social dynamics or how that species functions, which is why I usually shy away from going too alien with how my aliens think and feel.
2 - How some traits might actually be highly convergent for intelligence and working in a society, which I use to justify the "humanoid psychologies" of my aliens. Going too alien and incomprehensible or making them like and dislike things that make no sense just for the sake of making them alien is probably not that realistic.
But I just saw yet another video on how cats love holes and that inspired me to think about things that are more on the micro scale for species psychology.
Things that would change the fundamentals of entire societal dynamics are likely to be under very tight pressure, and therefore might be a lot more convergent, while things like a particular taste for some luxuries or day-to-day comfort might be able to vary a lot more just based on the evolutionary background of that species.
It is theorized that we humans like gold, jewelry and shiny things because they glimmer like water would glimmer for our thirsty ancestors in the open savanna. It's pretty much a human thing.
Likewise, cats like doing those weird cat things like fitting inside squares or putting their faces through holes. I actually forgot why that is, but I know that it has to do with them being both predators and prey.
You can then imagine that some civilization of sapient cats would not understand why humans like shiny things so much, but they would always use any excuse they can to fit themselves through small holes and what not, which would probably show up all around their civilizaiton, just like shiny and polished things are all over ours.
It would be a bunch of weird behaviors that are totally normal to them but can seem quirky to us. Cats were just one example. Elephants would probably have a thing for mud, otters would like to just slam things together and so on.
On the other side of this coin, however, you have traits that might be universal. And good news is that petting might be one, at least according to my own personal judgement and what I know from biology. I never bothered to do actual paper-based research on this so just take my word for it, see if it makes sense:
Grooming is very important and helpful to various species, and it shows up all over the animal kingdom, even in fish and arthropods (ever seen a fly doing that hand thing?). It has the main function of promoting hygiene and keeping parasites away, with a bit of deep-tissue-massage here and there, depending on the type of grooming.
Animals are then encouraged to seek grooming, either doing it on themselves, or allowing others to do it on them (various examples of inter and intra-species grooming like monkeys, those cleaning fish, the birds and rhynos, etc.). I imagine it is rewarding for everyone (and therefore feels good).
If you have the brains to recognize and categorize things, you might associate another member of your species, or even of another species as "hey there is that thing that does the thing to me that feels good and I don't know why".
I think that this is the seed for affection. Since mutualism ends up being so helpful for species, it's easy to imagine that feeling good about being groomed can also evolve into feeling good about grooming someone (and this is very strong in mammals, for instance).
Mix that with social behaviors that drive individuals to be together and you get bonding. Mix that with some higher forms of intelligence and you will probably have this desire we have to pet everything under the sun, and to recognize that petting is good. Or at very least some form of grooming-derrived contact or interaction.
Of course not all sapient species will have that, but I hope I managed to show how it can evolve very easily no matter the bodyplan or ancestry.
There are still a lot of unknowns when it comes to how sapient aliens would think or behave. I wish there was a lot more widespread research on the topic.
Also I could swear we had a "discussion" flair but I think I'm remembering worldbuilding. I hope this flair is okay.

2021.10.18 01:01 JuicyVibezz Just because you’re right doesn’t mean you’re not a fucking asshole
More often than not I see people arguing (especially here) about righteousness and being “correct” about the topic of the argument. To so many people it seems courtesy, civility and basic decency is out of the question when it comes to arguments or disagreements, where they’ll go to extreme lengths to try to prove their point. You may be right, but you may also turn everyone against you in doing so.

Question to the SDs - why would you want an SB to stay with you overnight in a hotel for a ppm meet ?
You’re probably just going to be sleeping most of the time anyway (unless you both have a lot of stamina !) And then you’re both going to wake up not looking your best.
SBs - do any of you really enjoy overnight meets?

2021.10.18 01:01 Inquisitor_DK Gender differences in character interactions
It's something I really thought about only just now. I got a comment back on two characters' conversation that said that F (the woman) only rejected talking to R (the man) at the end of the convo. Paraphrased, it went something like this:
R: "Want to have dinner?"
F: "I'm going to run an errand right now."
R: "Let's get a drink then."
F: "I have a lot of errands."
R: "When you're done with errands?"
F: "I'm super duper busy."
R: "Well what about when you're done with all that?"
F: "...sorry really busy."
And the commenter said that only the last "sorry really busy" was a rejection. It made me realize that the commenter, who is male, didn't recognize the previous rejections as such because they're "soft" rejections, which women are conditioned to offer instead of a hard "no." That attitude has been changing in recent years, with women in both real life and fiction adopting harder boundaries on the behavior and comments that they accept from other people, but the comment that I received was surprising because, to me, any form of "not right now" is definitely not an invitation for "later" unless the other person indicates so. It really makes me wonder just how many small differences like this people miss or disregard when they're writing about someone not of their own race, gender, religion, nationality, etc.
