2021.10.25 07:22 MustrumRidcully0 Theorycrafting: Value of blue dice vs red dice
Since I am still occassionally tweaking my BSG ship stats on kdyards, I was wondering about various balance considerations.
One question I had: How do people value blue dice vs red dice.
Obviously, red dice have a range advantage. Even if the are more random, if you had the choice between 3 blue dice or 3 red dice, 3 reds are usually better. But what if you had 4 dice vs 3 red dice? And how do certain other considerations affect this value?
Let's take the Arquitens. 3 Red Dice on the side. Take the Arquitens stats, and give it 3 blue dice instead of 3 red dice on the side. You'd probably value it lower than the regular Arquitens. Even if we replace the Turbolaser with an Ion Cannon slot. (Or would you?)
What if we boost it to 4 blue dice? Is it more valuable, less valuable, about the same?
What if, say, we took the Command version as basis and also replaced the Defensive with an Offensive Retrofit so we could equip Diposable Capicators?

2021.10.25 07:22 LyndensPop Finally did it
I beat hell. I played this game for so long as a teenager but back then I didn’t know what I was doing and didn’t have guides to help me figure stuff out.
I still don’t know what I’m doing and consider myself a complete noob compared to you guys.
That being said though I managed to finish hell with a hammerdin. Had a little help here and there but I was able to do act 4 and 5 myself. Pretty proud of that.

2021.10.25 07:22 CuramoShark How to avoid main-character syndrome?
So here is the background: I've been a DM for many years and finally got to be a player, this DM is brand new to the DMing and is honestly one of the best DMs I've ever had, he's also an old friend I've known for 10 years.
Through the years of only being a DM, I concocted a character I thought would be amazing. You know the old phrase "everyone is the hero of their own story"? Well this guy used to think that when they worshipped an evil god, but now they believe that they are a chaotic evil anti-paladin, who hates that god. Basically, they are a lawful good paladin who thinks that by healing people and helping out that they are doing evil. So he cackles like The Joker a lot, and he's often getting into trouble (due to a WIS stat that's just abysmal).
Because his backstory isn't that connected to the rest of the group, I end up trying to get him stuck into the action a lot and give him a lot of 'screen time' to help him connect with the others.
I'm terrified of this becoming main-character syndrome. Aside from anything else, the rest of the group are wonderful roleplayers and I really enjoy their characters. Also, if you're reading this on the CritCrab subreddit, you also already understand that MCS is a d*ck move anyway.
I told the group upfront that if my character gets too much to please just say so I can tone it down, but I'm still worried about the character being too much. I'm also aware that people may feel awkward being upfront to tell me that I'm being a bit MCS.
What is compounding my fears is that I've had to talk to my DM to say that I can now only attend every alternate session due to various life commitments, which makes me worry that when I am there I'll go way over the top.
I've considered asking the DM to kill off my character so that I can play one that's a bit more collaborative, but the DM created the world and stories around our characters, and so even though he won't hesitate to kill us if we are stupid or super unlucky in combat, just getting my character removed would feel like undermining his worldbuilding. Like I said earlier, this DM has the best worldbuilding and the best storytelling of any RPG I've ever been a part of so I really don't want to do anything to undermine that.
So, this is why I'm on this subreddit asking for help. Is there anything else I can do to avoid MCS?

2021.10.25 07:22 aoanla Q: How to appreciate Outer Wilds - what am I doing wrong?
Hi everyone, this post is a sort of last attempt to work out what I'm missing with this game.
Context: obviously, the Outer Wilds is pretty well known as a very well regarded, award-winning game. And, recently, one or two people recommended it to me - as someone who quite likes explorey, puzzle-solvey games (Antichamber was good) with story to piece together (I liked Firewatch, for example). The phrase "don't worry about time limits, I found Outer Wilds to be pretty relaxing overall" was uttered.
So... I got Outer Wilds. And the first 30 minutes or so, toodling around Timber Hearth, learning about all the things, playing hide and seek and going around the museum, were pretty relaxing. Although flying that model ship is one of the most clunky experiences I've ever had.
And then it went downhill from there: going into space feels really stressful (the system primary is huge and not that far away, and I've never managed to bring myself to launch when it's overhead incase I fall into it before I get my bearings and set the autopilot). Most of my experiences on planets have been mostly terrifying or anxiety inducing: trying not to fall into a black hole in the middle of the first planet I went to , getting hurled into space by giant twisters and having an island land on my ship and break it on the second , and so on.
I've managed to make discoveries, and my curiosity is certainly whetted, but I feel so clumsy in both the ship and the spacesuit that everything is just made incredibly stressful. And this is after 5 hours of playing, although I've never been outside the ship in 0g except by accident (I fell into the black hole at the centre of Brittle Hollow once, when the surface collapsed under me, and couldn't get back before I ran out of oxygen). The rumour list in the ship has a bunch of things I've joined up (at least Attlerock is fairly unstressful, and exploring Timber Hearth itself only killed me twice, and I found lots of hints on Mining site 2b... ), but pretty much every other experience has mostly been through teeth-gritted attempts to work through the tension. Sometimes I'm making discoveries without even knowing how I got there - I somehow ended up on an island with a Quantum Stuff tutorial in Giant's Deep the third time I landed there... but I have no idea how I found it, and only just completed the sequence before the loop ended. - and other times I think I know what I'm doing, but I just keep messing up the timing of the Ember Twin tunnel sequences combined with getting lost in the dark, and my oxygen running out, means that I've never found the Sunless City , and it's fairly stressful even going to the Twins in the first place, given how big the system primary is in the sky by them (I'm pretty terrified to apply much thrust on their surfaces in case I achieve escape velocity and get captured by the star). It feels like, slowly, I've just been crossing more planets of my list of "things to do right now" because they feel too difficult or stressful... and I've basically run out of destinations to try now.
I know that, hypothetically, I have "as much time as I need" - but I also don't, since I need to complete any particular task before the 22 minute loop time is over, and I've failed to do that several times, and came within 30 seconds of failing on the Quantum tutorial which I found by accident, not to mention the whole asphyxiation thing which happens far too often .
So: what am I doing wrong? How do I achieve the experience of this being relaxing?

2021.10.25 07:22 tomloaf Help please. GX works up and down counter
I am very new to GX works and am trying lots of different bits. One thing I am trying is to set a counter that will count up to a maximum but also have the count lowered as things are taken away. So for example somone keeps putting items on a conveyor belt and there can only be a maximum of 4 on the conveys so it stops putting things on the conveyor when the count reaches 4 but also senses as things are taken away and reduces the count. All help welcome
