As you might have seen, Luckin made an announcement in response to GS's letter. So should we trust it? Here're my thoughts:

I know things change a lot depending on where you are from but it seems nearly everyone on here is union or has been with the same company for years. I’m in Louisiana and I know very few people that have been with the same company over three consecutive years that are not superintendent and above. At the end of a job you get laid off and have to fight/have a connection to get on another project with another company. I’ve been an operator for 14 years, 7 of those have been in industrial construction in refineries and chemical plants. Out of those 7 years, I have worked for 10 different companies in 5 different states.

2021.12.06 11:37 BurritoDeleter23 Overreaction Monday
This sub like to overreact (like pretty much every NFL sub) so I thought I’d make a post to capture everyone’s overreaction to the game.
My overreaction: The Ravens will lose out and not make the playoffs, as the amount of injuries and poor offensive play has caught up to them.
My rational take: While there’s certainly a chance for the ravens to lose out, I still have enough confidence in this team to sort it’s struggles out and steal one or two wins in our remaining gauntlet, which should be enough to sneak in.
What are your overreaction’s?

2021.12.06 11:37 load_more_commments Reprimanded by CEO for trying to set clients expectations to be more realistic
We've got a client who's asked for some new features, since I was lead in the past project I was invited to call (impromptu as well) to let find out if it's possible.
Since I was under the guise that they wanted to know if it were possible, I gave a realistic answer. Saying that we could do it, but is your application ok with handling some amount of error uncertainty. Without going into details, I can safely say to delivering accurate results in this task is almost impossible. However, if they're willing to accept ballpark estimates then I can deliver it.
The client seemed fine and then asked me why, so I went a bit into the technical detail and said in a case like this you'd have to compromise a bit. He seemed fine with my explanation and still enthused about the project.
After the call, the CEO and lead sales guy dug into that I was too pessimistic and that the client doesn't need to know all the technical details (though he asked, wtf) and that next time I should try to 'sell more' without making it seem like it's a problem.
Truthfully, I don't think I came across as pessimistic. I'm routinely invited to impromptu client calls (not ones with the CEO though) as I usually always say things are possible (compared to my other senior colleague who is quite a buzzkill). I tried to understand the client's requirements and told them if they're willing to tolerate some error margin then it's fine we can do it.
They told me next time I should say we'll build a prototype and improve. I let them talk, but was boiling a bit. This isn't the first instance of them overpromising and giving us impossible tasks. I understand we NEED to sell, but we also need to set some expectations too, otherwise we look stupid in the end.
Thoughts? I'm sure this has happened to many of us, how do you deal with these situations better?

2021.12.06 11:36 pog92 How do you find the right people and products to invest in?
I read many articles about the early-stage investment industry becoming more and more competitive due to the entry of family offices and new actors.
I see that many VCs are trying to renovate their model to be first in line for interesting deals. Just investing in YC startups or similar don't work anymore: you often arrive after someone else :)
Since (simplifying) great startup = great product + great team, I think most of the efforts should go there. That's because the riskiest parts (and the main failure reasons) are startups not building the right it, or not being/hiring the right people.
So, how do you find the right people and products to invest in?
For the people side of the equation, I think that part of the solution is putting the accent on investing in founders rather than just ideas: ideas can and should be tweaked for working while changing a person is harder you have to find the right ones! Focusing on finding the right entrepreneur solves one of the sides of the equation.
For the product side, I notice a market failure leading to a lot of inefficiencies: early-stage entrepreneurs need to embed testing and tweaking in their product development process, but they: A) don't know they need it before building the wrong it (they try to pivot but often do it too late and fail before pivoting right); B) don't have money for hiring the right professionals who can coach them in testing faster, cheaper, better until they find the right it.
Startup studios, foundations and universities try to solve this market failure by offering access to tools or internalizing the process.
I have in mind some business models that could solve the equation, by giving investors access to "underdog" early-stage talents and products in areas with lower fund presence and competition. For example, since young aspiring entrepreneurs are usually less targeted by funds and more open to learning (rather than obsessed with finding validation for their idea), they could be the perfect target.
Investors could: - pay mentors for coaching and scouting for them good early-stage startups and teams - partner with universities and foundations to offer courses to improve the % of successful innovations coming out from there, in exchange for preferred access to investing - partner with startup studios to internalize this process. Have you ever seen these business models in action?
Do you or other investors you know ever partnered with startup mentors, universities or startup studios to continuously fill the first stage of their deals pipeline with good prospects?

I just noticed that all of my starting 11 are playing at home in the next GW and wondered if people were generally aware of Home vs Away form? My only decision to make now is whether to keep Vardy (H) vs NEW or take a punt on Dennis (A) vs BRE.

2021.12.06 11:36 ezinem77 tattered apparel question, help please
So, im trying to get my colonists to stop wearing tattered apparel. Ive been told to set an outfit to 51%. The moment i set it to 51% all my colonists instantly get naked, even though i have stockpiles of 100% durability clothes.
At the same time, i set my crematorium to start destroying clothes below 51%. The moment i do this, my colonists start burning all my clothes, regardless of their durability, 100% freshly made clothes included.
Also, i set my tailoring bench to create me 5 of a clothing item, look in all stockpiles, equipped included and 51% durability. The moment i do this, my colonists start producing clothes non stop. Even though there are 100's of 100% durability clothes in my stockpiles.
So, in short im pretty sure ive done exactly what your supposed to do. But ive got a bunch of naked colonists producing freshly made clothes, bringing them to the stockpile, then bringing them to the crematorium and destroying them.
Help me please? Im tearing my hair out over here, and everyone just seems to say set to 51% easy as pie.
