2021.12.06 11:09 BrendaMinnesoooota Hey, gray tree frog owners! I have a question for you.

What are you doing for lighting for your grays in the winter months? Do you offer UVB or something else, or just natural light from a window?
My frogs get lots of natural light during the warmer months in their outdoor enclosure on the porch, but I wonder if they need a supplement during the winter here in Minnesnowta.

2021.12.06 11:09 beatNick_ There Is No Reason

Why did you do it?
It wasn’t because of the consequences. That would be saying the effect is the cause. This is causa sui, a self-contradiction, a perversion of logic. And reasoning itself has no beginning. To prove something, you need to use other proven things, which themselves require other proven things, which … this is infinite descent. Reasoning has no bottom. People will “argue” that an idea is self-evident. So this is true without needing proof? This is true because it’s true (causa sui?)? This is obvious? - We are all bound to our own perspectives so to make the “argument” “it’s obvious”, is no argument, it’s irrational, lazy even. Sugarcoat your irrationality with the mask “axiom”, but there is still no reason. So there you have it, irrationality provides the conditions necessary for the growth of anything valuable, where rationality tends to be the growth.
As Nietzsche explains: A thought happens when it wants to, not when I want it. So it is a falsification of the facts to say that I am the one who thinks. He goes further: When we are awake we also do what we do in our dreams: we invent and make up the person with whom we associate—and immediately forget it. And again: There is no “being” behind doing, effecting, becoming; “the doer” is merely a fiction added to the deed-the deed is everything.
So what do we do when we do anything? We invent an identity for the task at hand, then we forget the identity to do the task, and move on with this process. That is our activity, there is no real reason for anything.
“Main thought! The individual himself is a fallacy. Everything which happens in us is in itself something else which we do not know. ‘The individual’ is merely a sum of conscious feelings and judgments and misconceptions, a belief, a piece of the true life system or many pieces thought together and spun together, a ‘unity’, that doesn’t hold together. We are buds on a single tree—what do we know about what can become of us from the interests of the tree! But we have a consciousness as though we would and should be everything, a phantasy of ‘I’ and all ‘not I.’ Stop feeling oneself as this phantastic ego! Learn gradually to discard the supposed individual! Discover the fallacies of the ego! Recognize egoism as fallacy! The opposite is not to be understood as altruism! This would be love of other supposed individuals! No! Get beyond ‘myself’ and ‘yourself’! Experience cosmically!” - Nietzsche
So what do we at least know?
From René Descartes: You exist. If you try to doubt your existence, then you must exist in order to do the doubting. And we know that we are subjective, but we KNOW that, this is objective. So you are a paradox. But let us not forget that perhaps everything is fictional: Truth exists. If truth didn’t exist, then it would be true that truth didn’t exist.

2021.12.06 11:09 West_Shine_1061 Anybody else have a legit medical reason to quit caffeine?

Hi there! I'm 25 years old and when I was a teenager I could drink 12 cans of cola or 6 cups of coffee in a day without any problems. I was heavily hooked on it and never thought twice about the ramifications it could have.
But I have been dealing with some shitty health problems lately. What made me quit caffeine was actually my sprained neck muscle - every time I would drink anything with caffeine, even green tea, it would cramp up and hurt like hell. Without caffeine, it is mostly dormant. I did research and discovered that although caffeine is hyped up in the mainstream media for it's health benefits, it can actually be very very bad for soft tissue injuries and can prolong their healing in many people. It can really dehydrate your muscles and cause them to tense up.
I have been caffeine free for over 2 months now and I am loving how healthy I am starting to feel again. I haven't felt this comfortable in my skin in months! Not only is my muscle sprain much more manageable, but my ganglion cysts in my foot are starting to shrink and I can feel my toes again, and my fibrocystic breasts no longer swell up and I can wear bras again. I did research on this aspect too. It turns out that while this hasn't exactly been proven by medical science yet, anecdotally many people have struggled with caffeine making their cysts worse often enough that doctors sometimes recommend to try to cut down on it and see if it helps. Who would've thought!
I do really miss some caffeinated beverages, especially tea and soda, but if it's not good for me, it's not good for me. I have potentially avoided several surgeries for my cysts and my muscle simply by quitting the drug that was making them exponentially more swollen and painful. Whenever I get a craving, I think about how much my neck would hurt or my cysts would swell up and the craving turns into repulsion immediately.
Has anyone else had a medical health problem that significantly improved once they quit caffeine? I had no idea caffeine could have such a harsh toll on your body until I completely quit and noticed how much better I felt. I almost feel like a new person.

2021.12.06 11:09 iBraveheartIam The 5 “Whys” method and how it can improve your productivity

The 5 Whys technique was developed in the 1930s by Sakichi Toyoda, the founder of the automotive manufacturer Toyota Industries. The idea is simple: ask "why" 5 times, until you get to the root cause of your issue. It's not dissimilar to a kid who exasperates their parents by continually repeating "why"... but the benefits can be transformative!
The goal of the 5 Whys problem-solving method is to reach the root cause of an issue faster — and to drill down to countermeasures.
Solutions solve for symptoms, and they might be short-term fixes; whereas counter measures propose a preventative response to the problem — ensuring it doesn't recur in the long term.
How to implement the 5 Whys technique to get to the root cause of your productivity issues Your goal is to find the root of your productivity issues.
Your starting point is defining the problem: "I'm always busy, but I don't feel productive with my time."
Rephrase the problem you've just defined as a "Why" question.
WHY #1: Why am I always busy but I don’t feel productive with my time?"
Answer: Because I get distracted easily by email.
WHY #2 Why do I get distracted easily by email?
Answer: Because I am constantly tempted to check my email, rather than work on important projects.
WHY #3 Why am I constantly tempted to check my email, rather than work on important projects?
Answer: Because I want to be very responsive.
WHY #4 Why do I want to be very responsive?
Answer: Because I don't want to miss an important email, and have urgent messages sitting unread.
WHY #5 Why don't I want to miss an important email, and have urgent messages sitting unread?
Answer: Because I don't want my manager or colleagues to think I'm not doing my job effectively.
Note: You don't have to stop at 5. If you think you can keep going deeper, do.
Now that you've established the root cause of your low productivity — your worries about hitting the quarter's difficult goals — you can set countermeasures to avoid feeling blocked and distracted by the pressure of these goals.
Through the 5 Whys process, you can identify the root cause of your productivity issue, as well as secondary factors.
In our example, email isn't the root of the productivity problem, but it's a distracting time waster.
How do you avoid time-wasters? Even with a crystal-clear understanding of the root causes of your productivity problem, time-wasters can consume your time and derail your progress.
For example, social media can be a delightful break for your brain... but sometimes you fall down a rabbit hole of memes and cute cat videos, and spend much longer than you intended. We spend an average of 145 minutes (or almost 2.5 hours) per day on social media, and even more, hours checking and responding to email.
The result? You're under even more time pressure, and further away from achieving your goals. Here's how to squash 6 common time-wasters to boost your productivity.

2021.12.06 11:09 WideVacuum How do you lift yourself up everyday in this corporate world?

Namaskara,
Just a corporate rant.
Today was another shitty day of my infinite shitty corporate days I have been living through. How do you deal with assholes at work?
I know it's a never-ending rant for most of us or maybe just me.
TL,DR: A colleague thinks I work less because I leave workplace early than him(he stays awake through nights sometimes). He has workload. He wants to drop some load on me, but I'm in conflict. I'm working with hands perfectly filled. I don't want extra work to mess up my schedule. I hate staying back or working late. This dude will somehow mess my career. The way he taunts me, I think he's gonna do something. how do you deal with such assholes?
Long story: So I'm a fresher working in a big MNC company. I'm not an employee, I was a trainee & now I work as a contract employee.
I want to work only during the work hours & want to give the rest of the day to myself. I want to live my life in peace & learn whatever I'm curious about. But work hasn't been allowing it. Until few months ago, I was overloaded with work which made me stay back at work everyday. But later I brushed away some work & learnt to leave workplace on time. If there was work left, I would do it the next day no matter if it's urgent or whatever. Now I'm feeling a bit better bcz of leaving early.
Suddenly one of the employee(Mr.A) in my team calls me and says I need to support in his work. He says this even though he already has a helping hand(Mr.B). He thinks he has shit load of work. he & his helping hand stay back till night everyday. Both A & B want me to help them in their work.
But as I said, I don't like accepting work which will take a toll on my personal time & health. Today Mr.B asked me for help with his work, but I said I can't help as of now bcz I have too much work today. This dude goes to main person Mr.A and says same shit what I said. So now when I was near Mr.A for some random work, he weirdly&like a neighbour aunty, taunts me of my busy schedule. He thinks I do nothing compared to him.
Maybe I might be doing less, but I do what I do & I'm fine with it. Mr.A is suddenly acting weird as if he's gonna do something about me not helping him.

2021.12.06 11:09 ImplicitMage Select multiple snippets of text?

When I Google how to do this, all sources state the same: Hold down [command] to select multiple snippets at once (which I expect, as an ex-windows user). The trouble is: That simply does not work! Not in Teams, not in Safari, not even in Pages. Does anyone have a fix for this? Thank you.

2021.12.06 11:09 Giegue_B Very important info regarding the hard mode and speedrun trophies

I just did a playthrough to get these trophies and went for the restart the starseed ending as I needed that one as well. Doing this ending will NOT give you the achievements. While this isn't the worst thing in hardcore mode as you can just reload and do the other, I lost my chance at the speedrun trophy due to the extra 3-5 minutes that doing both endings tagged on. Not sure if it's just a bug or intentional, but be careful!
