2022.01.23 00:56 Money-Librarian3330 Intro to Tyson v Douglas

Might just be me, but is the intro to Tyson v Douglas (the live commentary on the fight) the real recording? Or did they just hire actors to say the real lines verbatim? Great song, and I’m really curious.

2022.01.23 00:56 snsdgb "Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth."

I'm curious if anyone else has noticed something that's stood out to me more and more recently. Whenever questions about being happy, feeling the spirit, retaining remission of sins, keeping your testimony strong, etc. come up in church or in talks, the solution is often things like:

What's interesting, is how rarely I hear things like:
In other words, the solution appears to come across as learning more about Christ instead of doing things that Christ did (or would do) that make us more like him. There's certainly a need for study, but it reminds me of the verse "But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only." I've heard it said that "We sometimes conflate going to church with being a good person or doing good. Going to church doesn't make us good, it's where we learn how to be good. Attending the temple doesn't make us good, it's where we learn things that should help us be beter." and that comes to mind as well.
It's also made me wonder if a verse we often quote about others is actually a warning for us, "Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth."
I suppose it feels like if Christ is going to reward us with his spirit, peace, happiness, etc., it would come from doing as he did, instead of listening to a talk about him.
Anyone else notice this or have thoughts on this?

2022.01.23 00:56 averagesizechungus Found out my girlfriend believes in eugenics for people with certain disabilities. Help.

Title is pretty self explanatory. Her and I met online and have been talking/FaceTiming long distance for about four months now. We’re very compatible and have a lot of the same interests, and things have been going really, really great.
Today we were FaceTiming and we took the political compass quiz together as we want to understand more about our respective beliefs. One of the questions is “People with serious inheritable disabilities should not be allowed to reproduce.” And she answered strongly agree. Idk if she understood it, but I asked her and she started with one answer, that people with Down syndrome or autism should be forcibly sterilized by the state, then when I was like wtf, she changed her tune to just violent schizophrenics and other similar conditions.
Apparently this is normal where she lives (Eastern Europe) and forced sterilization is common in mental hospitals. I was taken aback by her response and got a bit flustered. We had a bit of a heated discussion for about 1.5 hours, and I hung up on her at some point during this. We talked it out and no feelings were left hurt but man, did I over react or what? Im confused as this was our first real “argument”.
Any thoughts?
